SH-405T
SH-405T is an epoxy-modified polysiloxane resin. It is produced of silicone polymers(containing methyl and phenyl) and epoxy resins though a special process. SH-405T exhibits outstanding high and low temperature resistance, excellent adhesion, and superior moisture-proof performance. It is suitable for high-temperature resistant coatings, anti-corrosive coatings, and more other similar applications.
Siloxane Epoxy Hybrid Polymers (also known as Epoxy-Polysiloxane Hybrids) are advanced coating resins that combine the best properties of epoxy and polysiloxane chemistries. Their primary application is in high-performance protective and industrial coatings, where they bridge the gap between traditional epoxy and pure inorganic silicone systems.
Typical Coating System Specification (Example)
For a Marine or Offshore Environment:
Surface Prep: Abrasive blast cleaning to Sa 2.5 (ISO 8501-1).
Primer: Zinc-rich epoxy primer (for cathodic protection).
Intermediate Coat: High-build epoxy or epoxy mastic.
Topcoat: Siloxane Epoxy Hybrid, 100-150μm, DFT. This topcoat provides the long-term weatherability and color stability.
Comparison with Traditional Systems
vs. Pure Epoxy: Epoxies chalk and degrade rapidly under UV exposure. Hybrids are vastly superior for any exterior, sunlight-exposed application.
vs. Polyurethanes (PU/AU): Hybrids offer better corrosion resistance, edge retention, and often better adhesion to marginally prepared surfaces. Polyurethanes may offer slightly better gloss and color range.
vs. Inorganic Zinc Silicates: Hybrids are easier to apply, have less stringent surface prep requirements, and are more forgiving on film thickness. They are often used over inorganic zinc primers as a sealing/topcoat system.
Conclusion
In summary, Siloxane Epoxy Hybrid Polymers are applied where extreme durability, long-term aesthetic performance, and corrosion protection are required under harsh environmental conditions. They represent a premium coating solution that reduces total lifecycle costs for critical infrastructure and industrial assets by dramatically extending maintenance intervals. Their ability to cure in cold, damp conditions makes them a highly versatile choice for challenging maintenance projects.
