How to improve the through-dry speed of acrylic polysiloxane?
We have a range of curing agent types. The more amino groups, the faster the cure, but flexibility might be poorer. We generally recommend choosing the most suitable one; faster is not necessarily better.
Is accelerated curing available for polysiloxane resin?
The addition of catalysts can accelerate the curing of polysiloxane resin, but we generally do not recommend, as it may increase the risk of cracking.
What is the purpose of acrylic-modified polysiloxane?
Conventional products have advantages and disadvantages, polysiloxane has very good alleound properties. Its benefits include superior extreme temperature resistance, outstanding weather resistance and anti-aging properties, good chemical stability, excellent electrical insulation, low surface energy and hydrophobicity.
Disadvantages are relatively limited adhesion, moderate mechanical strength and wear resistance, higher cost(compared with resin eg. polyurethane, acrylic, alkyd), limited resistance to strong alkali.
To optimize the performance and balance the cost, modified polysiloxane with acrylic gives increased the flexibility, better adhesion, stronger corrosion resistance, etc. Adding acrylics also helps reducing the cost of resin.
Can polysiloxane resin be cured with isocyanate curing agents?
Isocyanate is not on the recommended list for polysiloxane resin. According to its curing mechanism, we advise aminofunctional hardener or butyl titanate catalyst to achieve the best coatings performance.
Can you explain the curing mechanism of polysiloxane?
Polysiloxane resins are cured by ambient temperature with hardener or catalyst by reacting with ambient moisture or humidity. Heat drying is also available to speed the curing. Two recommended hardener or catalysts are: amine functional hardener and butyl titanate catalyst. The selection of curing agent depends on the polysiloxane resin you request.
Can polysiloxane resin be used in applications like coil coatings? Does it offer over 20 years weather resistant protection at 200℃ service temperature?
Due to its outstanding weatherability, excellent color and gloss retention and UV resistance, polysiloxane offers long-lasting protection for over more than 25 years. As we all know, polysiloxane is a hybrid of organic and inorganic components. The flexibility of inorganic products are not good enough. And for Quark’s polysiloxane, mostly polysiloxane is the backchain, and side chains are functionalized with epoxy and/or acrylic, so the flexibility is not ideal to formulate coil coatings. In addition, 200℃ service temperature also require more inorganic components, we do not suggest to apply polysiloxane resin in coil coatings.
